Unison Colour Soft Pastels

Why they are my pastel of choice. Cathy Pearce, Associate Artist of Unison Colour.

Out of all the pastels I have tried, Unison Colour Soft Pastels have a particular consistency, which is perfect for the techniques I use for painting. Meaning I am able to use the pastels wet or dry and with mixed media.

Unison Colour Soft Pastels are really very soft & buttery and they have an high pigment content, providing an exceptionally strong intensity of colour. Their colour range is truly extensive with 380 different colours to choose from. Take a look at Unison Colour's Colour Chart for full details.

Unison Colour Soft Pastels created by an artist John Hersey for artists and still handmade here in UK in Northumberland.

I paint with Unison Colour Soft Pastels every day and find them completely reliable. I am happy to use these pastels in demonstrations and to promote them to my students because of the surety of the products and the professionalism of the company. Futhermore, I trust that promoting Unison Colour as the brand of pastels I use, gives purchasers of my work confidence that my paintings are light fast and resilient to fading in the sunlight.

This is why it is such a huge honour for me to now be an Associate Artist of Unison Colour and have that recognition of my work from the brand, which is my favourite. I am thrilled to be able to work with them more closely, to recommend their products through my workshops and to write blogs for them about how I use their extraordinary pastels.

Re-rolling Soft Pastels

I love the fact that there is no wastage with soft pastels, once too small to hold they can be ground down and re-used.

Grind down your favourite Unison Colour Soft Pastels, mine is yellow, code Y9 it is like powdered sunshine. Then add a bit of water to make a paste and leave spoonfuls on blotting paper to dry just enough to be able to roll.

Once rolled they are ready when completely dry.

Alternatively you could grind your little chunks down and add water and alcohol to use for an underpainting.
